Carers' Strategic Outcome Statements
The Aberdeenshire carers' strategic outcome statements identify what Aberdeenshire Council, in partnership with NHS Grampian and relevant third sector organisations, is going to do to meet the needs of unpaid carers.
The outcomes identified are:
- Carers are enabled to identify themselves as carers and are recognised by the appropriate organisations and services
- Carers are aware of their rights, including that of assessment
- Carers are supported in their caring role
- Carers have knowledge and practical skills to continue in their caring role
- Carers are involved as key partners in the planning and provision of care services
- Carers feel they are well supported by available resources
These outcomes are included in chapter 9 of the Health and Community Care Strategic Partnership strategy covering the period 2009-2014.
The Aberdeenshire Carers' Strategic Outcomes group is responsibile for making sure these outcomes are achieved. The group is made up of staff from Aberdeenshire Council, NHS Grampian, Third Sector organisations and Aberdeenshire carers representatives.
An action plan has been developed to show what will be done during 2010 to achieve the outcomes for carers.
The Scottish Government published the new national carers' strategy on 26th July 2010. There are actions in this strategy for local authorities. The Aberdeenshire action plan will be updated towards the end of the year to include information on how we and our partners are going to implement the recommendations from the national strategy.
