Where is our budget spent?
To give you an overview of Aberdeenshire’s finances, the council receives a share of money from Scottish Government which meets around 80% of our budget and the rest is made up of council tax, fees and charges. This annual sum is over £550 million and if we consider that we will continue to have a large percentage of this then we have a significant sum of money to ensure that services continue to be delivered to a high standard. So where does all the money go?
Aberdeenshire Council Revenue Budget 2010/11

It is important to understand that the council’s capital budget is separate from the revenue budget of £550 million which will be affected by cuts. The capital budget is spent on fixed assets such as new buildings or roads and is financed through a mixture of the sale of existing assets, borrowing, or from capital grants. The Policy and Resources Committee will meet to consider plans for a £391 million capital programme that would be progressed across Aberdeenshire over the next six financial years.
