  • Do you have difficulty getting around the shops in Aberdeen City Centre?

  • Do you have difficulty getting about the shops because you cannot see well? Would you like to have a companion to assist while you are shopping?

If the answer to any of these questions is "yes" then Shopmobility is for you

What is Shopmobility?

Shopmobility is a scheme to lend, free of charge, powered and manual wheelchairs and scooters for travel around the city centre. This helps people with limited mobility, or visual impairment, to shop and use the town centre facilities.

Where is it?

St. Nicholas Car Park
Flourmill Lane
Opposite the back entrance to Marks & Spencer

How is it run?

The centre is staffed by a full-time co-ordinator and a team of trained volunteers.

The facilities include a toilet, suitable for people with disabilities, and even has a drinking bowl for guide dogs.

Who can use it?

Shopmobility is for anyone, young or old, and no matter whether their disability is temporary or permanent. It is available to those with sports, or road accident injuries, as well as the long term disabled.

Shopmobility is open to anyone in Grampian Region, including visitors.

Shopmobility is about freedom to get about the shops and you do not have to be registered as disabled to use the scheme.

Is it free?

Shopmobility is a free facility for the users - including the car park.
The scheme does need support with the running costs. A donation box will be on hand and any contribution you wish to make will be welcome.

When is it open?

  • Tuesday 10am-5pm
  • Wednesday 10am-5pm
  • Thursday 10am-7pm
  • Friday 8.30am-4pm
  • Saturday 8.30am-1pm

We hope to extend the opening hours as the demand for the service increases.

How do I use Shopmobility?

You can come to the Shopmobility Centre where equipment can be borrowed if it is available. However we would recommend all users to pre-book so that a suitable wheelchair is available to meet their needs. If you need any special features or fittings on a chair ask at the time of booking - we may be able to provide them.

Volunteer Escort

If you require a Volunteer Escort it is essential that we have advance notice. When you arrive at the centre you will be asked to sign a form for insurance purposes. If you are using a powered chair a member of staff will show you how it works and once you are confident that you can handle it off you go. At the end of your shopping trip return the equipment to the centre. If you need help a member of staff will accompany you to your car.
