Aberdeenshire Young Carers Support Service
CAIR Scotland provide support to young carers in Aberdeenshire. The service offers confidential, practical and emotional support to any young carer aged under 18. They can give one-to-one or group support.
You can access the service two ways:
- through existing community groups and organisations – community based, or
- a referral from an agency - service based
Community based
CAIR Scotland workers can meet young people in venues such as youth groups and leisure facilities. They work on an outreach basis through existing community groups and organisations.
Service based
Any agency can make a referral to the service.
CAIR Scotland works with people in education, social work, health, Police, voluntary sector agencies, fire service and training providers to make sure their assessments identify young people who have caring responsibilities.
One to One Support
Meeting with a support worker can offer a safe space - physically and emotionally - for you to get support with your role of carer, to offload your problems and get help to find solutions to these.
CAIR Scotland offers practical support, liaising with agencies to make sure the person you are caring for is getting all the external support they need and are entitled to.
They will meet you in places you choose. This could be in your home or at a community venue.
Group Activities and Peer Support
CAIR Scotland can offer peer support group sessions in local communities for young carers.
They also arrange activity days and residential opportunities to give you relief from your role as a carer. You can meet other young people who are in the same situation as yourself, have fun and feel OK about not being at home.
