What is day care?
Day care is for older people (aged 65+) and people with disabilities who enjoy social contact, but are less able to get out and about, or need support to manage day to day tasks.
Some day care offers a specialist service for people with memory impairment in a safe and friendly environment. Through a programme of stimulating activities, a small team of staff experienced in working with people who have memory problems, give help and support, aimed at restoring and maintaining a sense of self confidence, self esteem and dignity.
Day care is a place to meet and make friends, in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where support can be given. Our day care services aim to:
- improve or maintain your quality of life
- promote your independence
- encourage friendships
- provide social contact, and
- meet your individual needs
Day care is organised by day care staff and volunteers and offers you a day out of your home and a break for your carer.
You can enjoy a nutritious and tasty meal in comfortable surroundings. There is a choice of menu and special dietary needs can be catered for.
For more information on what is available contact your local day care service.
What is a resource centre?
We have seven purpose built resource centres in Aberdeenshire providing a service to adults aged 16 to 65 with special needs.
- Banff Day Services
- Robertson Road Resource Centre, Fraserburgh
- Willowbank Day Centre, Peterhead
- Ellon Resource Centre
- Harlaw Centre, Inverurie
- Forest View Centre, Stonehaven
- Scolty Centre, Banchory
The centres provide a range of centre-based activities including:
- life skills
- social skills
- leisure activities
- community opportunities
- relaxation
- creative crafts
We also have several small scale industrial units, community venues and other facilities providing a range of alternative day opportunities, including training and access to work. Our resource centres have links to local colleges giving you access to a range of courses.
The centres build on your abilities, helping you to make more choices and develop your skills. We do this within a safe, caring and supportive environment and in a way that gives encouragement, builds self-confidence and skills and treats each person with respect.
Resource centres give you the opportunity to:
- continue to try new experiences
- develop new skills, and
- be part of the local community.
People have different needs. So the services are tailored to your individual needs after a needs based assessment. You also have a care plan, agreed with you, and tailored to your personal needs. This plan is reviewed regularly. Every centre user is allocated a keyworker, a member of staff who gives you individual support.
