If you enjoy working in an informal way with groups and individuals to give them advice and supoprt then there is a career in Community Learning & Development for you.
Community Learning and Development has three main focuses to its work:
- Adult Learning
- Youth Work
- Community Capacity Building
These involve supporting local young people and adults to gain confidence, skills and knowledge ot make a difference in their own lives and their community. This can be challenging and rewarding.
These careers provide a flexible way of working and living, encourage creativitiy, and are based on working with enthusiastic local people and other services and agencies.

What qualifications and experience do you need?
Youth Worker
You will need:
- A standard grade, or equivalent, pass in English at level 3 or above
- Experience of working with young people in a variety of settings and be able to consult with, develop and support young people
Community Learning & Development Worker
You will need:
- experience of community work and the ability to study at degree level or
- a degree in Community Education or equivalent (e.g. diploma or post-graduate certificate in Community Work, Adult Education, Youth and Community Work).
Senior Community Learning & Development Worker
You will need:
- A degree in Community Education or equivaletn (e.g. diploma or post graduate certificate in Community Work, Adult Education, Youth and Community Work) and
- a minimum of two years post qualifying experience in a Community Learning Working or similar post. This experience must include the development of community learning or community development programmes, and work with voluntary sector and other agencies
