Youth Clubs

Youth clubs provide valuable opportunities for young people to socialise with their friends and take part in a variety of activities outwith school hours, particularly in rural areas where there are few facilities available to young people. Many also offer organised outings and trips to facilities not available in the local area.

Most are run by a committee of volunteers, many of them parents, and usually on a rota system. Some groups expect parents/guardians to take their turn on the rota in order for their child to take part.

Due to the nature of the work, prospective volunteers need to have criminal record checks carried out to check their suitability for working with children and young people.

If you want to find out what exists in your area or are interested in setting up a youth club where none currently exists, contact staff at your local community centre who will be able to advise you.
