Music and Young People

Youth MusicMusic is such a big part of many young people’s lives that it will come as no surprise that CLD is involved in a variety of projects involving music. These include learning to play instruments, teaching others to play, learning about lighting, sound, performing, creating bands, organising/managing events, promotion and more.

It is great fun and because it is so enjoyable young people are enthusiastic about activities involving music. Many of the community centres have high quality equipment/instruments and advice available CLD staff find that musical events are ideal occasions for making relationships and encouraging young people to become involved.

So do young people benefit? – clearly the answer is yes, they develop self confidence, learn to work in teams, engage in dialogue with adults in all walks of life and even get credited with achievements. Music provides a way for young people to explore their place in this world.
