Young Carers

Young Carers are children and young people under 18 looking after someone at home who is unwell or disabled. Young Carers help in lots of ways, like doing the housework, getting the weekly shopping, keeping an eye on someone, helping them to wash and dress and cheering them up.

The responsibility for this care sometimes means that Young Carers fall behind with their schoolwork, neglect their social life and their own health. These young people often care with little outside support. Few of these young people have anyone to turn to for information, support or practical help.

The Carer’s Centre can:

  • Be there for you to talk to
  • Answer questions and give support
  • Help access other support services
  • Give opportunities to meet with other Young Carers
