News from the Aberdeenshire Community Planning Partnership
National Community Planning review now complete
"Community planning: an initial review" is a report on a study, undertaken by Audit Scotland, which looks at the progress of community planning partnerships (CPPs) since the introduction of the Local Government in Scotland Act 2003. Three main areas were reviewed: the national context within which community planning operates; local arrangements for community planning; and planning and performance management in CPPs.
The key findings were:
- National policy initiatives, fragmentation of funding and structural differences in partner organisations can make it difficult for CPPs to achieve their full potential.
- There is no one model which creates an effective CPP, and they should best suit the local circumstances. However, more needs to be done to cut down on the number and complexity of partnerships in the CPPs and to engage elected members.
- Many CPPs need to develop more fully their planning and performance management systems. It is only then that they will be able to demonstrate the impact of community planning practice on service delivery and community wellbeing.
The report and its recommendations will now be considered by the Aberdeenshire Community Planning Board and Community Planning Executive. If you wish to view the report, it is available as both a summary and as a full report.

Update on the Joint Health Improvement Plan
Wide consultation has been undertaken to determine the priorities and develop shared actions for the new Joint Health Improvement Plan (JHIP). This has included a seminar on health improvement, meetings with elected members, NHS topic specialists and representatives from the voluntary sector and a citizens' panel survey on health.
A multiagency " Working Together for Health" workshop was held in June 2006 for those interested in the development of the
Aberdeenshire Joint Health Improvement Plan. The workshop aimed to share progress and develop actions to improve health across Aberdeenshire. More information on the outputs from the event can be obtained by contacting Mary McCallum (Health Improvement Officer - Strategy) by email on Mary.McCallum@nhs.net or Mary.McCallum@aberdeenshire.gov.uk or by telephone on 01224 665269.
Further and wider consultation will be held on the new JHIP when it is at its draft stage.
The current JHIP (2003-05) is also available to view.
