Aberdeenshire Council benefits from a shared Archive Service with Aberdeen City, based at Old Aberdeen House and the Town House. We have a dedicated Archivist from the service who is responsible for Aberdeenshire's archived records and is the single point of contact for our staff.
More information on the Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives - including the growing online catalogue of materials - is available on the service's website and you can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
The Archive Service exists to collect and preserve historical records relating to the North East and to secure significant modern records for future generations. Its role is to safeguard and ensure the long-term survival of the archives in its care on behalf of the local authorities and the general public, as well as to provide access to these historical records and assist individuals with their research.
Below are just a couple of images of Aberdeen's Union Street from the collection, providing a glimpse into the history of the North East.
We're currently running a survey to gather information about awareness and usage of the Service, and to involve the public in planning its activities for the next 5 years. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey - thank you.
