Alford Haughton Park Grounds
Formerly part of a private estate that had been in institutional ownership for a number of years, prior to being bought by the former Aberdeenshire County Council in 1970. The Mansion House now houses self-catering flats and the reception, shop and games room of the caravan park situated within the park.
The park covers almost forty hectares in area and this can be broken down into four general sections.
A third of the park is covered by naturally regenerated birch woodland with heather understorey through which runs a network of paths. A third of the park is on the riverside and half of this area was developed as a wildflower meadow approximately eight years ago. Of the remaining third half is occupied by the caravan park, and the other half is mown grass, suitable for events and a wide range of informal recreation, and ornamental planting.
Facilities
Parking is available for approximately 300 cars and includes designated disabled spaces. The two toilet blocks have disabled facilities and one of the toilet blocks is open all year round.
The park provides picnic tables and has two areas of play equipment for children. On the riverside is a Trim Track, with nine activity points, suitable for a wider range of ages.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own barbecues to the park but are requested to use the concrete slabs provided in the picnic table area in order to avoid damage to the grass and wooden tables, and also to minimise any fire risk.
During the season April to October inclusive when the caravan site is operating visitors to the park have access to the shop and to the 18 hole putting green adjacent to the main building. The charge for use of the putting green is: Adults and children 50p.
Fishing permits for the river flowing through the park can be purchased from the caravan park reception. Information on the pricing structure and concessions available can be obtained by ringing the caravan park reception on 019755 62107.
