The Clerk of Court/Clerk of Peace is Neil McDowall, Director of Law and Administration, Woodhill House, Westburn Road, Aberdeen.

The District Court (Scotland) Act 1975 provides that each local authority in Scotland must have a District Court. Aberdeenshire has four district courts within its area:

District Courts will Cease from 2nd June 2008

As of 2 June 2008, the District Courts will cease to exist in their current form. They are to be replaced with Justice of the Peace Courts, operated by the Scottish Court Service.

In advance of this, all District Court records are being transferred to the Scottish Court Service. After that, the former District Court offices in Banff, Inverurie and Stonehaven will not be able to accept payments of fines or fixed penalties:

Payment can be made by Cash, Credit Card, Debit Card, Postal Order and Cheque .


Cheques should be made payable to "Scottish Court Service"
Payments can be made by post, in person or over the telephone (Debit and Credit Card)

NOTE - this does not affect Environmental Fines, Dog Fouling Penalties and Anti-Smoking Penalties, which should continue to be paid to the Council, as before.
