Voting in an Election is your chance to help decide who will make decisions on issues that affect you every day.
Who can vote?
In order to vote you must be
- on the Register of Electors,
- a British or Commonwealth citizen, or a European Union citizen who is resident in the UK,
- aged 18 or over (16 and 17 year-olds can register to vote but cannot vote until they are 18), and
- not subject to any legal incapacity
How to Vote
Shortly before polling day you will receive a Poll Card which will contain your own unique electoral register reference number and tell you where you should go to cast your vote. However, you do not have to visit a polling station to vote if you prefer you can arrange to vote by post. If you are unable to vote in person, in certain circumstances you may be able to appoint a person to vote for you.
