Introduced by the Scottish Executive, the new Central Heating Programme for pensioners is unique to Scotland providing an average of £2500 for eligible private homes including:

  • Free central heating system (for up to seven radiators)
Loft, tank and pipe insulation, cavity wall insulation and draught-proofing
  • Carbon monoxide, smoke and cold detectors
  • Energy advice on how to use the system and budgeting
  • Benefit entitlement check

The programme will transform the harsh winter living conditions for thousands of pensioners - not only through savings on heating bills but by offering affordable warmth, reducing the number of damp houses and improving health.

To Qualify

To qualify the householder or spouse must be 60 or over. The conditions are:

  • You must be resident in Scotland; own your own home or have a tenancy (local authority and housing association tenants should apply to their landlord)
  • You must have been resident for 12 months before applying and intend to live there 12 months following completion. It must be the main or only residence
  • You must not have central heating - ie storage heaters, a system which heats two or more rooms by radiator or ducts linked to a central boiler or your existing system must be broken beyond repair

Eaga Scotland was appointed in August 2001 to manage this five year programme and will process applications, surveys and arrange installations. Applicants can choose between a gas, electric, oil or solid fuel system.
