In the short time after high tide , amazingly intricate patterns are formed as seawater drains from the sand to form tiny deltas-geology in miniature in the making.

What's the War Got to do with us?

This fascinating exhibition in the Long Gallery explores the impact the Second World War had on our local community.This exhibition features personal testimonies, rare archival items from the period and new information about the significant role played by north east sites such as Duff House, as a prisoner of war camp and the strike wing at Boyndie where RAF Banff was based.

DANCE-A National Galleries of Scotland Touring Exhibition

Dance is a subject for which Edward Degas is particularly well known for , often painting scenes of dancers backstage or in rehearsal and A Group of Dancers, showing ballet dancers at rest between rehearsals , is one of his best known works.This show which centres on this work juxtaposes paintings,sculpture, prints and photography from leading artists.

Lang Byre Mixed Show

Well known local photographer Andy Hall presents ' Celtic Stills', a collection of monochromatic images of musicians, some of whom have recently played the Barn.

He will exhibit alongside Kim Canale's vibrant and abstract oil painting, 2009 winner of the Richard Demarco Prize and Lisette Degioanni's portraits in oil.

Mud Pies at Dunnottar

A totally new type of event for the under 5s! Weekly woodland activities for 2 to 5 year olds and their adults to discover nature and explore and play outdoors.

Come along to this second 6 week course at Dunnottar Woods, Stonehaven to discover nature and play and explore outdoors. We'll be making mud pies, exploring the wood for signs of wildlife, making things and playing amongst the trees.

Celebrating National Science and Engineering Week 2010 we continue our Cafe Scientifique Aberdeenshire Series with Professor Cheryl Ashworth of the Roslin Institute and Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Science at the University of Edinburgh. City and Shire Deeside Line Walk (15 miles)

Take the opportunity to walk from Duthie Park to Milton of Crathes along the Deeside Way returning via public transport.
This walk weaves around sites of archaeological interest with opportunities to watch the varied wildlife along the way. Walk through city in the morning, breaking for lunch at (or near) Peterculter and then continue through the Shire and the recently completed sections around Drumoak and to Crathes, offering fine views across the Dee and surrounding countryside.
Wear suitable clothing and footwear and bring a packed lunch and money for your bus fare.
This is a joint event with Aberdeen City Ranger Service.

A celebration of Volunteering

The day is an opportunity for volunteering organisations to say a thank you to their volunteers with a range of workshops including Relaxation, Assertiveness Techniques and Armchair Aerobics. There will be a range of voluntary organisation stalls where people can find out more about an organisation and the services they offer. People can also have a health check carried out, find out about the local community planning process or receive information on volunteering for an organisation. Refreshments will be provided free on the day so people are welcome to drop in for a cup of tea or coffee. The day is supported by BRIDGE, local Council for Voluntary Services, and sponsored by Banff & Buchan local community planning group. A spokesperson said; "This is an opportunity for volunteer groups to celebrate their volunteering activity and offer a reward to their volunteers, as well as giving the public the chance to see what exciting things are happening in their community"

The north coasts of Aberdeenshire are quite spectacular with a mixture of cliffs, sandy and pebble beaches. These attract a wide variety of seabirds and out to sea there may be dolphins, seals and porpoises. Historic Finlater Castle literally clings to the cliff edge; as do many interesting species of plant. From Cullen we cross the long sweep of sandy beach at Cullen Bay to the aptly named Bow Fiddle rock at the old fishing village of Portknockie.

Yugen presents The Water Kelpie of Loch Ness

Taken from our rich heritage of Scottish tales about the Loch Ness monster, or Water Kelpie, the most famous Scottish monster has its own story to tell.

Yugen Puppet Company creates a tale about one man's quest to seek out the beast, which in darker times terrorised the local countryside. He outwits the shape shifting water horse and takes away his powers but in doing so inherits powers of his own. Using an original sound scape with Gaelic song, the tale is told with storytelling,puppets and animation.

Bellevue Rendezvous

Bellevue Rendezvous are an inventive Scottish based trio of Gavin Marwick (fiddle), Cameron Robson (guitar, bouzouki) and Ruth Morris (nyckelharpa) plundering Europe for strange and interesting tunes. OS Landranger 37 Strathdon.
Bus leaves Gordon House at 8.30am and returns approx. 4.30pm.
This walk starts at the Braeloin car park in Glen Tanar, on Deeside. It follows the northward route of the Firmounth Road, a once popular cross-country route; although here it was called the Mulloch Road. From Glen Tanar we travel north towards Dinnet and across the River Dee by the bridge (although originally travellers forded the river). From St James' our walk continues north via Mullochdhi, an area famous for archaeological remains and dynamite, to the village of Tarland.
This walk is only suitable for adults. Please book in advance.

The SpeedFest is for post-1955 motorcars only. It will bring together a selection of a hundred classic sports,performance and competition cars.The theme will be Le Mans racing and the success of the Jaguar based Ecurie Ecosse wil be celebrated.

Entries will be invited early in 2010 and members wil be strictly pegged at one hundred.Owners who are keen to attend should email details as soon as possible.

Linn of Quoich and the Fairy Glen (9 miles)

Bus leaves car park Gordon House at 8.30am and returns about 4pm.

From the car park at Linn of Quoich over Carn Dearg to Carn na Drochaide, then across easy ground to Carn na Criche. Descend to Gleann a t-Slugain via the Fairy Glen. Return to Linn of Quoich by the old road on the north side of the River Dee.

Cruden Bay to Longhaven

Enjoy a spectacular 6 mile coastal walk past New Slains Castle and the Bullers of Buchan. At his time of year the cliffs are home to hundreds of seabirds who have come ashore to breed and raise their young. We'll walk to Longhaven where we'll use public transport to return to Cruden Bay.
This walk is only suitable for adults. Please book in advance and bring waterproofs, stout footwear, a packed lunch and money for the bus.

Be part of a Cairngorms biodiversity extravaganza by helping local rangers and wildlife experts to find and record as many different plants and animals as possible in and around Ballater in one day!
Various 'expeditions' will be programmed from early morning bird watching to night-time bat and moth recording and you can drop into 'base camp' at any time to catch up with the latest sightings.

On this walk we'll unwrap some of the fishing and shipping history of the beautiful and remote Rattray Head. Starting at the southern end of the largest dune loch in the UK, we'll pass the former sites of a chapel, castle and villages before descending onto the beach to look for seabirds and shipwrecks.

Briefly heading to Ophelia's Pool and to capture the marvellous view south, we'll then head north. The Nortrail coastal path winds in and out of quiet bays, through farmland and skirts the edges of the coastal towns of Newtonhill and Portlethen before crossing Findon Moor. We'll return by public transport from Portlethen. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing and strong footwear and bring a packed lunch and bus fare.

Walk Around Gight Woods

Take a walk to see the beautiful Vale of Ythan, through conifer then broadleaved woodland, passing an ivy-wreathed ruined castle, down to the Ythan to hear of the Devil of Hagberry Pot, then along and across the river to rise through woodland that is a rare example of traditional hazel coppice with oak standards.

St Ternans Heritage Fair

St Ternan's celebrates Banchory's local culture and features a range of exciting events for both local folk and visitors. Saturday 12th June features a Pictish Extravanganza at Banchory Museum and Library and an open day at the St Ternan Freemason's Lodge. On Sunday 13th there will be a wide range of events for all the family in the Bellfield Park, including the North East Ferret Show and Ferret Racing Championships, an SSPCA dog show; The Banchory Birl which offers a range of musical workshops to novices and experts alike; an opportunity to try out some traditional sports, such as fly casting; a continental market; charity stalls; and to conclude the proceedings an open air Songs of Praise with the Bon Accord Silver Band.

The Festival puts a special emphasis on boat building, restoration and sailing and on associated traditional crafts, music and art.The 2010 programme also includes a Food Fayre, a fun run and a 10k road run.

This is to be a pre-1955 event for veteran and vintage cars and commercials (excludes motorcycles and agriculturals).The Vintage cavalcade will feature an integral road run that forms a circular one-way route with Alford at the hub. Entrants will converge on the museum area at midday for an afternoon of arena activity.
