Food Safety Officers cover a wide range of services from registering premises to sell, serve or prepare foodstuffs, to the investigation of alleged food poisoning instances:
- Food Premises Registration is a legal requirement for businesses before opening
- Food Hygiene Inspections to ensure premises meet the Food Hygiene (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and EC Provisions
- Food Standards Inspections to ensure that food offered for sale to consumers is labelled correctly and meets the legal requirements of the Food Safety Act 1990, the General Food Regulations 2004 and associated legislation
- Food Sampling surveillance to ensure that food safety and hygiene standards are monitored in accordance with current food safety law
- Food Complaints are investigated to ensure food safety, resolve health risks and avoid recurrence
- Food Poisoning where harmful germs enter the body and can cause illness
- Food Alerts for warning and information or for action. They are published by the Food Standards Agency and issued to Local Authorities
- Home Authority Principle where businesses operating in Aberdeenshire need to comply with a wide range of food legislation
