Big Lottery Fund

This is by far the largest Distributer of grants within the Lottery bringing together what was previously the Community Fund and the New Opportunities Fund. The principles and objectives of these two funds have been retained within the new set up.

Their mission is to bring real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.They will therefore consider funding projects aimed at investing in the development and wellbeing of communities. Some of their programmes are aimed speciffically at the independent community sector while others are aimed at statutory bodies such as Local Authorities in partnership with communities.

They have such a wide range of programes that it is best to go to their website and then also to their help desk giving them speciffic information on your idea/project.They are an "outcome" based organisation and it is important therefore that you gain an understanding of their outcomes before you apply.

Possibly their most useful programme is their "Investing in Ideas Programme" where they will consider funds to help you to develop your idea provided this meets one or more of their outcomes
