How do I apply?
We have a stock of approximately 13,000 properties. The properties that become vacant are allocated to people on our waiting list. The waiting list is based on a person's housing need.
Our waiting list has just over 7,000 people on it, including direct applicants, transfers and homeless applicants.
Admission to the waiting list
If you are aged 16 years or over you can apply for housing.
You will soon be able to apply for housing online.
From 8 June 2012 you will be able to apply for housing using our on-line housing application form. A link to the new site will be available here.
If you need any further information or you need housing or homeless advice please phone or visit your local Housing office.
Medical assessment form
If you are applying for medical points you can download the medical assessment form:
- Medical assessment application form (pdf 77kb)
- Guidance notes for the medical assessment application form (pdf 86kb)
Or you can request one by emailing housing@aberdeenshire.gov.uk. Alternatively, contact your local Housing office who can post an application form to you.
Once you have completed the form, post it to your local Housing office.
If you have any difficulty in completing your application we are here to help you. You may wish to contact your local Housing office for help or to make an appointment for someone to help you with the form.
How are the properties allocated?
Points are awarded to your application to reflect your housing need. Our allocation policy details how these points are awarded.
When tenants are selected for houses, priority is given to people who:
- are occupying houses which do not meet the tolerable standard
- are occupying overcrowded houses
- have large families
- are living under unsatisfactory housing conditions
- are homeless or threatened with homelessness
In some areas, properties do not become vacant very often - for example in Westhill and Stonehaven. Family sized accommodation is in particularly short supply.
