Housing Support
What is housing support?
Housing support gives support services to people who have been assessed as needing extra help with their tenancy or where they are currently living.
The service helps you by giving assistance with, and advice on, tasks such as:
- shopping and food preparation
- security and safety of your home
- life skills
- personal budgeting
- official correspondence and form filling
- appointments
- appropriate relationships with neighbours
Housing support is a low level, short-term service and helps you become more independent in your home.
Who can use the services?
Housing support services are available if you have been assessed as needing help so you can stay independent in your own home.
You can have housing support wherever you live, whether it is in a flat, a house, sheltered accommodation or a hostel, so long as you have signed an agreement to stay there - such as a tenancy agreement or occupancy agreement. You are also eligible to receive housing support if you own your home.
Is housing support a chargeable service?
Not everyone has to pay for housing support, but for those who do, the payment is paid separately from your rent.
You can apply for a financial assessment to be carried out which may reduce the amount you have to pay. If it is found after having a financial assessment that you are unable to pay part or all of the charges, we will pay for your service.
Contact the Housing Support Assessment Officers for more information.
What if my circumstances change?
You should tell the Housing Support Assessment Officers if there is a change which may affect your charges. You can also discuss getting more support, or less, if you need it.
