Visual Artists and Craft Makers Awards and Bursaries
Visual Artist and Craft Maker Awards: Aberdeenshire
Aberdeenshire Council in partnership with Creative Scotland
Aberdeenshire Council Arts Development Team, in partnership with Creative Scotland, are launching the Visual Artists and Craft Makers Awards for creative practitioners living in Aberdeenshire. The Awards will be joined by two new Bursaries for emerging practitioners.
The Visual Artists & Craft Makers Awards Scheme is aimed at practitioners at all stages of their careers who have demonstrated a commitment to their work and in developing their practice to produce a body of work. This could include Visual artists in the fields of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, moving image and film making. We are also interested in contemporary creative work conceived, designed and made by individual practitioners in media including ceramics, furniture and wood, glass, jewellery and metalwork, lettering, musical instruments, textiles and basket-making.
Bursaries for emerging artists and makers are a means of assisting individual emerging artists and makers over the course of 12 months. The Bursary can help towards the development of skills and training, the creation of new work without a specified project outcome, the creation of short and long term creative plans, and developing an individual’s ability to present and market new work. During this 12 month period bursary recipients are also supported by a mentor.
The Awards Scheme will provide awards of between £500 and £1500 to visual artists and craft makers resident in Aberdeenshire. Funds can help towards activities that are integral to the practitioner’s personal and professional development, such as the immediate costs of researching, creating and presenting new work or advancing skills, technical ability and ideas.
The two Bursaries are a means of assisting individual emerging artists and makers. Funds can help towards the development of skills and training, the creation of new work, and developing an individual’s ability to present and market new work. Each successful recipient will be supported over a period of 12 months and will receive a Bursary of £1500 as well as mentoring from a relevant professional in their field.
With the introduction of a Bursary Scheme, Aberdeenshire Council is inviting notes of interest from established practitioners and creative professionals regarding becoming a Mentor.
The closing date for Applications is 5pm, Monday 16th January 2017.
