Capacity grants - assist fund

The funding is open to Aberdeenshire organisations, constituted groups, partnerships and charities who are not for profit.  

This fund is to support community organisations that deliver on education and children’s services key strategies, as listed in the general conditions, that are seen as having a long term future but are facing short term financial challenges such as breakdown of equipment, which could result in the organisation no longer being able to function, which could ultimately result in the organisation ceasing to exist.  

How much is available

A total fund of £30,000 is available, in year one, 2017/18. 

Awards of £5,000 will be available but awards of £10,000 will be available in extremis.  

When is the funding available

Applications will be reviewed on the following dates, these dates are aligned with the dates of other schemes closing:

  • 31 May 2017
  • 31 August 2017
  • 31 October 2017
  • 30 November 2017

Any applications received after the dates displayed above, will go forward to the next closing date.  

The nature of the fund is such that payments will be made based on the criteria of the funding and the need of the organisation, such as to assist in an emergency.

Once the full amount is allocated it may be the case that there may be no further funding available.  If the funding is exhausted before all these dates have run, notification of this will be available on this page, equally if it is not allocated by the 30 November 2017 additional dates will be added, this will be done with plenty time to ensure applicants can spend the funding within the financial year. 

Conditions

General conditions

Regardless of the fund you are applying for, you must comply with the general conditions.

Specific conditions

When applying for the assist fund, you must also comply with the following conditions:

  • if your organisation already receives core funding from Aberdeenshire Council you will not be eligible to apply for this fund
  • this payment is made as a grant and as such will not cover short term cash flow issues 
  • your organisation must own the building to apply for funds related to issues with the building ie heating, water storage etc.
  • this fund will not cover wear and tear on items used by your organisation

In the event of over-subscription to this funding, those projects which most closely match the criteria for the funding will be selected.

Grant agreement

If your application is successful, you will be required to sign a grant agreement.

The detailed terms and conditions which apply to the grant you are being offered are set out in both the grant agreement and within the general and specific conditions shown on this webpage. Please note that grant agreement represents a legally binding agreement between the grant recipient and Aberdeenshire Council and you may wish to seek independent legal advice on its terms prior to signing.

Funding will be paid to you on receipt of the signed grant agreement (pdf 192KB), this should be submitted in order to process payment.

Before you apply

In the first instance please contact the business development team to determine if your claim would fit the criteria. If your application is accepted, your local officer will work with you and we would look to respond to you within 10 days.  

How to apply

If your application is successful, you will be required to sign a grant agreement.

Additional documents 

You must also provide the following documents with your application:

  • a copy of your constitution or memorandum and articles, if you hold these
  • your latest independently audited accounts
  • a copy of your latest bank statement
  • copies of documentation to evidence the costs for costs relating to your project as outlined in part 4 funding breakdown of the application form
