Computers and Internet: Acceptable Use Policy
The following policy has been produced in order to safeguard the interests of the library and information service and the community it serves.
This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure that it remains timely and relevant
All users of computers and the internet must read and agree to the Acceptable Use Policy as outlined below.
- Users must not provide false or incorrect information on the registration form or whilst on the internet
- Users must not create, access, copy, store, transmit or publish any material which is obscene, offensive, abusive, illegal or defamatory
- Users must not breach copyright and data protection laws
- Users must not attempt to interfere with the set up of these computers or access other networks illegally
- Users must not access chat rooms or use the computers for game playing
- Users must not download software, music or games
- Users must not use anonymisers to try to disguise identity or activities
- Users must not reveal other people's personal information without consent
Children and Young People
Children and Young People under the age of 16 will be allowed access to computers and the internet provided that a parent or legal guardian has signed a consent form on their behalf. This information is recorded on the library management system. Parents or guardians must assume responsibility for the information obtained by the child and ensure the child understands the conditions stated above and acts responsibly.
Monitoring
Aberdeenshire Council reserves the right to monitor access to the computers and Internet sites electronically.
Sanctions
Aberdeenshire Library and Information Service reserves the right to refuse further computer access to any individual who breaches the conditions of the Acceptable Use Policy. In the case of a junior computer user, the parent or guardian who signed the consent form will be notified. In exceptional circumstances any breach of this policy may be reported to the police.

Aberdeenshire Library and Information Service does not accept responsibility for the quality, accuracy or availability of information accessed through the Internet. Aberdeenshire Library and Information Service does not assume liability for any loss, damage or injury, direct or indirect, suffered as a result of using these computer resources.
Aberdeenshire Library and Information Service reserves the right to delete users who have not used the service for over 365 days.
