Library Direct - Housebound Service

Library Direct is a free library service where library staff or WRVS volunteers will deliver your choice of library materials directly to your front door.

Who is it for?

This service is available to all residents of Aberdeenshire who are unable to visit their library due to:

• Disability
• Infirmity
• Illness
• Being the carer of someone affected by these conditions

This may be short term, such as recovering from a stay in hospital or a longer term arrangement.

How does it work?

Once you contact the library service to say you are interested in the service you will be sent a membership form to complete. You will also be ask what types of things you want to borrow.  We have a wide selection of stock in the library in a variety of formats e.g.

• Books available in hardback, paperback and large print
• Talking books on CD or cassette
• Music CDs
• DVDs

We will also ask you how many items you require.  This can be changed to suit your needs, as can the type of stock you want to borrow.

How often will I get a delivery?

Once we know your requirements we will make up a collection of items to suit your needs and contact you to arrange a suitable time to make your first delivery.  The collection and delivery of items will then be on that day and time every 4 weeks.

Can I ask for specific titles and authors?

Yes, you can pop a note in your returned items for the library staff to request items for you or you can use the Library Catalogue. To use the library catalogue you will need your membership number and a PIN, this is readily available from library staff.

Once the item you requested is available you will receive it in your next delivery.  Please note some new titles are very popular and may have a long waiting list, please be patient you will receive it, you may just have a short wait.

Is there any charge for the service?

No, this is a free service; you will not pay any hire charges or overdue fines.

Can I keep items for longer?

Yes, if you have any items you are not finished with the library staff will renew them for another 4 weeks and you can return them in your next collection.
