Introducing Bookbug
The Bookbug programme encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with children from as early an age as possible, developing a lifelong love of books for children all over Scotland.
Working through locally-based organisations, free packs of books are gifted to all children in Aberdeenshire at around six weeks, 18 months, three years and in Primary One, along with guidance materials for parents and carers. Parents wishing to receive a pack should speak to their Health Visitor or contact their local library.
Bookbug also aims to foster a love of books through a range of fun activities. Free singing and rhyming sessions are taking place in libraries and other community venues across Aberdeenshire
Libraries across Aberdeenshire hold Bookbug’s Library Challenge for all our younger borrowers from January until May. Children aged 0-4 are eligible to take part.
All they have to do is join the library, borrow books and/or attend rhymetimes, and storytimes. Every time they visit the library they will get a wee sticker or stamp added to their special library card and can choose a certificate after 4 visits. There are lots of certificates to choose from and there will be a prize for the child/ren with the most certificates from each branch or mobile library.
