| Biography I decided to enter the world when my Scottish parents happened to be in Sunderland, North East England. Whisked back across the border into Scotland a fortnight later, I spent my childhood in the seaside town of Dunoon, in the west of Scotland. I loved playing on the rocky shore opposite our house or building dens in the rambling garden. At the age of twelve I was sent away to boarding school where I tried hard to avoid sport, preferring to fill sketch books and note books with drawings and stories. After studying graphic design at Glasgow School of Art, I worked as an illustrator for London University while picking up illustration and writing work from children's publishers. I eventually returned to Scotland to teach art in Cumbernauld High School. I turned freelance in 1986 and have been writing and illustrating children's books since then. |
