| There seems to be a strong connection between alcohol and aggression as alcohol is said to affect the ability of a person to consider social and situational signals. It is also said that alcohol consumption increases the vulnerability of an individual to assault. Alcohol is a factor in many incidents of violent crime, assaults and criminal damage and such crimes are often committed whilst the offender is under the influence of alcohol. It is said that to prevent alcohol related crime and disorder, alcohol consumption must be reduced. How far do you agree with statement? Do you have any comments? | 01/02/2010 10:45 | Administrator |

Securing Public Safety

| It has been suggested that modifying the drinking environment where alcohol is sold and consumed could minimise potential harm linked with alcohol use and could secure public safety. These measures could include improved lighting and general tidiness of town centre environments; training bar staff and security staff on how to monitor and prevent problematic behaviour, such as intoxication, underage drinking and rowdy customers. It is argued that the use of plastic and toughened glassware could serve as a useful function to prevent broken glass being used as a weapon. How far to think these measures go to securing public safety? What other measures can you suggest? | 01/02/2010 10.30 | Administrator |

Preventing Public Nuisance

| Public nuisance issues are said to include excessive noise escaping from licensed premises, the noise made by patrons entering and leaving these establishments and other undesirable condequences of drinking alcohol, such as the dropping of litter and urinating and vomiting in doorways. It is thought that many parts of Scotland lack a coherent strategy for tackling these issues. It is said that the availability of a range of suitable facilities may minimise such problems. This could include sufficient public transport, taxis, public conveniences and fast food outlets and so on. What other measures can you suggest to reduce and prevent public nuisance? Do you have any comments on this issue? | 01/02//2010 09:45 | Administrator |

Protecting and Improving Public Health

| The chronic and excessive consumption of alcohol can have a damaging effect on our health. The medical profession suggest that an increase in ill-health, hospital admissions and deaths in Scotland could be associated with the excessive consumption of alcohol, perhaps resulting from an increase in affordability and promotions. Do you think that limiting the availability of alcohol could reduce alcohol consumption and therefore reduce alcohol related ill-health? What measures do you think could motivate consumers to drink less alcohol overall and per drinking session? Find out more. | 29/01/2010 14.34 | Administrator |

Protecting Children from Harm
| Topic | Date/ TIme it was posted | Area |
| There is growing evidence which suggests that children are drinking alcohol regularly, in an unsupervised environment, and often to excess. It has been argued that, if young people can be introduced in a suitably controlled way to environments where alcohol is sold and consumed as a normal part of social life, it is possible that they will grow up without feeling the need to drink illicitly or to excess. Do you agree with this? Find out more. | 29/01/2010 14.37 | Administrator |
