Natural Heritage

Aberdeenshire is rich in natural heritage. The Council has a duty to preserve this heritage and do so by considering environmental issues in Development Planning; supporting conservation strategies and Local Biodiversity Action Plans; and providing support and advice to local groups and communities.

Aberdeenshire Council's Environment Team (part of Infrastructure Services) are committed to protecting enhancing and interpreting the natural environment. Advice is provided on a range of issues.

 

Aboyne LochTrees, Forests and Woodlands
A vital conponent of our landscape, these features and make a positive contribution to our quality of life, rural economy, biodiversity and recreation. Some are protected by legislation, some are a valuable community resource.

 

HeronNature Conservation
Aberdeenshire is rich in wildlife. Some sites, habitats and species are protected by law and others are identified as priorities for action at a local level.

Landscape encompases all the visable features of the land and is an essential part of our natural resource base. Some landscapes are protected by national and local designations.

NESBReC is the biological records centre for the North-East Scotland which gathers and makes available biodiversity information.
