Community council elections
The nomination period for the 2024 community council elections closed on 8th September 2024.
Some community councils did not receive enough nominations to reach their minimum numbers. A second call for nominations was held and as a result more community council were formed in the Buchan and Formartine areas. The Lumphanan Community Council (Marr area) received more nominations than spaces which resulted in holding a ballot on Thursday 21st November 2024.
To find out about current elections and ballots, see the results and inaugural meeting details for formed community councils please go to the relevant area pages:
Where community councils met the minimum number of nominations but did not exceed their maximum numbers, all of the nominees were duly elected. If you are interested in joining any of these community councils, please contact the community council directly.
If there were not enough candidates to meet the minimum numbers after the second call, a community council didn't form. This leaves a considerable gap in the representation of local views and involvement in development of policy and how your area develops and grows.
Community councils are comprised of people who care about their community and want to make them a better place to live. We hope that people will want to come forward to represent their areas and we would encourage new people to become involved to sustain and develop their communities. Whatever your background, you have something to bring to your community council.
As a community councillor you will:
- Be provided with training and support and you will learn about how things work
- Get to develop and undertake projects
- Get a real sense of achievement when you see the difference you can make
