Planning and Notifying an Excursion involving Adventurous Activities
The Notification process and form is a cornerstone of the safety management system and it is crucial that the system is used by all establishments. Its primary purpose is to provide a protective support mechanism for Heads of Establishments, giving them direct access to expert advice upon which they can base decisions and judgements. Since it is Heads of Establishments who carry responsibility for the safety of adventurous activities, excursions or events this tier is vital for the effective management of safety.
The budget to meet the costs of administering the Adventurous Activities Safety Management System has been removed and that this cost will now need to be met from charges to establishments and/or sub services.
| Level 1 notification | Up to two days' activity | £40 |
| Level 2 notification | Between two and four days | £70 |
| Level 3 notification | Activity in excess of four days | £100 |
| Level 4 notification | Overseas trips to countries not in the EU, North America or Australasia involving more than 15 people | £250 |
| Equipment inspection | Annual equipment inspections in facilities | £350 |
Allied to the notification process are the Register of Approved External Providers and the data base of internal staff qualifications. These two mechanisms help to ensure that only quality providers are used and that staff leading activities directly are appropriately trained and qualified.
