Pre-School Information

Early Years Pre-school Education Admissions Process 2012-13

There have been a number of changes to the Pre-school Admissions process for this year.  The process for 2012-13 is designed to provide parents with a greater degree of choice.  This means the local authority will no longer centrally allocate Pre-school education places and parents will be able to choose the Pre-school education provider they feel best meets the needs of their child.  Aberdeenshire Council has a duty to secure part time pre-school funded places and offers choice across a range of private and voluntary sector provisions in addition to local authority run nursery classes.

If your child has a birth date between 1 March 2008 and 28 February 2010 and you wish her/him to commence or change placement for early years pre-school education for Session 2012-13, you should submit an application form to your pre-school setting of first choice.  This should be done in either of the following ways:

For parents who wish for their child to attend a playgroup or private day nursery commissioned by the local authority to provide Pre-school Education (Commonly known as Partner Providers).

Parents should apply directly to the provision of their choice after the 23rd January 2012.  Although there is no deadline for admissions forms to be received by Partner Providers, it should be noted your chances of securing a place will be increased the earlier you apply before your child is eligible to receive a funded place (the term following their third birthday).

For parents who wish for their child to attend a local authority nursery provision

To increase your child’s chances of obtaining your choice of local authority nursery, you should submit your application form no later than the 2nd March 2012. Parents are able to submit their application form at any point after the 23rd January 2012. It should be noted there are a limited number of local authority nursery places and the local authority cannot guarantee parents will receive their preference.  Admissions deadlines for places in local authority nurseries are as follows:

For parents of children who will become eligible to commence their pre-school education place in August 2012 or January 2013, applications should be received no later than 2 March 2012.

For parents of children who will become eligible to commence their pre-school education places in April 2013, applications should be received no later than 1 October 2012

Application forms and the booklet Applying for Early years Pre-School Education for your child: Session 2012-13 are available to download below and will be available from all pre-school settings from the 23rd January 2012.
