Salmon Permit Conditions

Conditions (Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout) Regulating the Council’s Fishings in the River Don at Alford, Inverurie and Kintore and the River Ury at Inverurie

1 Every person fishing MUST be in possession of a current permit issued on behalf of Aberdeenshire Council, and any person fishing without a permit will be liable to prosecution.  Permits will not be issued at the river bank and must be obtained before fishing commences
2 Anglers must do everything possible to prevent illegal fishing or poaching
3 Anglers must keep to the fishing paths.  No dogs permitted
4 Anglers must allow any Bailiff, River Watcher, Warden or other person having authority from Aberdeenshire Council to inspect their permit, fishing tackle and any fish in their possession
5 Anglers must not take or kill any salmon fry, or other fry, unclean fish or ANY FISH UNDER TWENTY-FIVE CENTIMETRES IN LENGTH.  Any such fish which may be caught must be returned alive to the water.  Any angler found in possession of such fish may be liable to prosecution and the immediate loss of permit
6 Fishing with 'natural' baits including worm, minnow, prawn, shrimp and maggot is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.  In addition to any other penalties which may be imposed, any person caught fishing in this manner will be banned from the water
7 Ground baiting is STRICTLY PROHIBITED
8 No gaffs or tailers to be used or carried
9 The holder of this permit must report, within 48 hours of the permit expiry date, full details of salmon, sea trout and brown trout caught by: placing a completed catch return form (including nil returns) in one of the boxes provided by the riverside  or posting it to Aberdeenshire Council, Landscape Services, Gordon House, Blackhall Road, Inverurie, AB51 3WA.  Holders of season permits are required to submit two returns as specified on the form
10 Anglers must not damage or interfere with the banks of the river or with any property belonging to the Council or any other Party.  No fires shall be lit on the river bank or in or near fishing huts
11 At all times anglers must fish THROUGH the pools and must not continue to occupy these when following anglers approach.  Salmon anglers have priority
12 Anglers must not cut in front of another for at least 50 metres and anglers must at all times fish progressively downstream
13 This permit is valid only for the person named overleaf and is not transferable
14 Charges will be as determined from time to time by Aberdeenshire Council
15 The Council reserves the right to amend or make additions to the conditions
16 All Anglers MUST adhere to the Don District Salmon Fishery Board's Angling Code. A copy of this code is printed on the back of the catch record sheet issued with each permit
17 All foul-hooked fish must be returned to the water
18 Bag limit (fish that may be killed).  Strictly as per the Don District Salmon Fishery Board Conservation Policy
19 Fishing for brown trout permitted from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset
20 Anglers  must return to the river all fish in spawning colours
21 Any person infringing any of these conditions or who may be convicted  of any illegal fishing or any offence under the Acts relative to trout or salmon fishing, will have their permit revoked and future issues of permits to said person will be reviewed
22 No angler may fish with more than one rod concurrently, nor use a set line
23 No wading at Alford beyond one-third of river width
24 Spinning - Marker gauges are positioned at certain bridges and other key points along the river bank. No spinning is permitted when the river level is below the red mark. No lure to have more than one treble hook
25 No Fishing on Sundays except for Brown Trout on the River Ury only.
