Westhill Town Centre Development Brief
The development of Westhill Town Centre is driven by a current population of 9,500 which is expected to rise to over 10,000 by 2006; added to which the effect of Aberdeen's proposed Western Peripheral Route will increase Westhill's 20 mile radius 'sphere of influence', to take in Alford, Echt, Torphins, Banchory and beyond. Aberdeen City itself is within 15 minutes' commuting distance, with a population of 200 000 within its boundaries.

The brief was prepared by Michael Gilmour Associates and Aberdeenshire Council Officers and builds upon the work undertaken by the Westhill Residents Association Planning for Real Group from January 2004 to October 2004 as part of the Westhill Town Centre Feasibility Study which was written in consultation with town centre landowners.
The Westhill Town Centre Development Brief was approved by the Garioch Area Committee on the 15th March 2005. This brief is now Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) and will be used to guide Councillors and officers decisions when considering planning applications for development within Westhill Town Centre.
