Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax)

Exemption from paying road tax is available when a vehicle is used exclusively by or kept for the purposes of a disabled person who is in receipt of the higher rate mobility component of DLA. Further information Tel: 0800 88 22 00

This scheme offers a number of funding options to people who receive the higher rate mobility component of DLA at time of application and will continue to receive the allowance for three years. Part or all of a person's DLA mobility component is given up to hire/hire purchase option. Motability's charitable fund may be able to provide financial help if a disabled person cannot meet the full cost of putting a car on the road, including any adaptations and the cost of driving lessons. Toll Concessions/Ferry Concessions

A number of tunnel and bridge authorities waive their charges for disabled travellers provided they meet certain requirements. Details can be checked with individual owners / operators.

Mobilise

The Disabled Drivers' Association and the Disabled Drivers Motor Club merged in 2005 to form Mobilise, a campaining charity that promotes mobility for all disabled people. They provide information and support on many different aspects of mobility including driving, adapted vehicles, scooter and wheelchair users, Blue Badge parking etc. Visit the Mobilise website

Badge holders may park free of charge in certain areas. Application forms are available from the local social work department (2 passport photographs required). Tel: 01467 620981. There is a charge for processing applications.
