What is TaxiCard?
TaxiCard offers reduced fare taxi and rail travel to those who cannot use conventional bus services because of severe physical disability or infirmity.
A TaxiCard entitles the holder to make a maximum of 52 single trips per 3 calendar months at one quarter the normal fare. Trips may be made within, and between, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen, and also to/from Montrose, Brechin, Keith and Cullen.
Rail trips may be made between all station in Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen and also to/from Keith, Elgin, Forres, Nairn and Montrose.
TaxiCards are free of charge and valid for five years from the date of issue.
What fares discount is available?
By Taxi
TaxiCard fares, which are payable to the driver, are based on the following metered fares:
- for journeys costing up to £20.00: one quarter the normal fare
- for journeys costing over £20.00: full fare less £15
Up to three companions are entitled to travel with the TaxiCard holder, at no additional charge.
By Rail
TaxiCard holders are also entitled to travel at half of the normal adult standard single, day return or saver fare on all rail services operating within and between Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen, and beyond to/from Nairn and Montrose.
Holders of Blind persons TaxiCard travel free on rail services operating within the boundary of the national travel scheme.
Who can apply for a TaxiCard?
You are eligible if you are permanently resident in Aberdeenshire for at least 32 weeks every year and you meet the following criteria:
- you are eligible for Higher Mobility component Disability Living Allowance (or you would be, but you are precluded because you are permanently resident in long stay hospital);
- you receive War Pensioners Mobility Supplement;
- you are registered blind or partially sighted;
- you are 65 years of age and you have a severe and permanent physical disability which prevents you from using conventional bus services.
Persons with a temporary disability and children under the age of two are not eligible.

TaxiCard Conditions
TaxiCard remain the property of Aberdeenshire Council and are subject to the conditions of use outlined in the application form and TaxiCard User Guide, which is issued to the TaxiCard holders.
The Council reserves the right to alter the level and/or availability of TaxiCard travel concessions, by insertion of a public notice in local newspapers circulating within the area of the scheme, not less than 4 weeks before the date of any change.
