WRVS volunteers...making a difference in your community!

What is the WRVS Shopping Service?

WRVS is a scheme designed to assist people with their shopping when they are unable to shop for themselves

We can help by:

  • Group shopping
  • A group of shoppers are taken by minibus to the supermarket where they will have in-store assistance with their shopping. This will also be a social outing with opportunity to have a chat and refreshments before being transported home.
  • Accompanied shopping
  • A WRVS volunteer will transport an individual shopper by car, help with shopping in store and transport them home again.
  • Delivery
  • Where a client is unable to go to the shops a volunteer will either do the shopping or pick up a telephone order from the shops and deliver it to the client's home.

What will it cost?

£1.50 is the standard charge that will be made for each trip. This is payable to the volunteer on the day.

Who is eligible for the shopping service?

Those who are:

  • Elderly or disabled (motor or sensory)
  • People whose carers are under pressure
  • Have previously had a home carer to do shopping for them
  • People who cannot use public transport
  • May be convalescing after illness/surgery
  • People who wish to regain their independence by shpping for themselves
