The annual cross country run for all of the network primary schools at Tillybrake Field will be changing from term 4 to term 3 to be in line with the cross country season.
Extra-curricular Schools Clubs
This school year has seen many extra-curricular clubs running across the primary network. These have included hip hop dance, basketball, netball, cycling, running and yoga. Many of these sessions have been run by school terachers or parent volunteers without whom, it would not be possible to run these clubs, so the time they give up is very much appreciated.
Go For It
Banchory Primary will be taking part in this year-round incentive project to encourage school communities to travel actively (walking or cycling) to school, even just part of the way, wherever possible. Every time a pupil walks / cycles to or from school they will get a tick on the wall chart. When the pupil has 40 ticks, they will earn a reward card that they can redeem for free access to certain leisure facilities across Aberdeenshire.
Orienteering
Primary 5 pupils will receive curricular introductory sessions of orienteering in term four. These sessions will be in the lead up to a festival to be held at Deeside Activity Park, to which all schools who have undertaken the curricular sessions will be invited. Following this festival, all Primary 5 - 7 pupils will be invited to participate in the Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival, at which Banchory Schools have faired very well in the past. A training course for teachers will be held in January with Jon Musgrave from Maroc Orienteering Club to allow the class teachers to deliver the curricular sessions in the lead up to the festival.
Young Leaders
Primary 6 and 7 pupils in all the network primary schools have been undergoing Young Leaders training with myself. The training is now complete and the majority of the schools have their Young Leaders sessions up and running suuccessfully at break or lunch times palnning, leading and delivering games to the younger pupils in the schools. Well done to all those who took part in the training and keep up the good work!

A number of changes have been made to the curricular PE sessions with the aims of the project in mind including providing single sex PE lessons wherever possible and introducing a uniform for PE lessons so all pupils are wearing the same kit. An extracurricular girls only group has also been established with the girls making the choice of what activities they are participating in.
