All school and community teams from the central area are welcome to attend. The festival focus is participation and fun and thus no scores will be recorded with the exception of the Inverurie festival in June which will be a scored event. Following the success of the Netball festivals, Active Schools (Central) have organised a series of Basketball festivals. These are open to all school and community teams in the central Aberdeenshire area. Further information and details on how to enter are on the leaflets below.

Orienteering

All P5 pupils in the Kemnay Network took part in 3 weeks of Orienteering coaching where they learned various skills such as map reading, following directions and working as part of a team.  Following on from this, 150 P5 pupils from the four primary schools came together to compete in a scored event at Bennachie.  All the children did extremely well (and didn’t get lost!)  It was an incredibly tightly contested competition with Alehousewells, Kemnay & Kintore all coming joint second, but it was Kinellar who walked away with the winner’s trophy, only beating the rest by 10 points!

Ballroom Dancing

P6 pupils in the network have started a 6 week block of Ballroom Dancing, learning how to dance the Salsa and Quickstep!  On the 7th of December all the schools will come together at the Holiday Inn, Westhill to take part in a Strictly Come Dancing style competition to showcase their new found dancing skills!  This is the third year the project has run and has proved to be very popular with the pupils and their teachers.

Active from the Start

Active from the Start is a programme for nursery aged children.  Children will take part in curricular sessions which focus on core skills such as kicking, rolling, catching and throwing.  Each child will take home a “skill bag” which contains equipment and games to play at home with parents and siblings.

Young Leaders

All P7 pupils in the network have had the opportunity to take part in the Young Leaders programme.  The Sports Leaders UK Young Leader Award is a programme of leadership training for young people that supports them working with younger children, teaching leadership skills through a whole range of games and activities.

Cluster Clubs

Active Schools offers a wide range of clubs, within the community, which are open to pupils from all schools in the network.  Please contact Kerry for further information on any of these clubs.

Training Opportunities

top of pageVolunteer Opportunities

I am always on the lookout for volunteers as many of the activities run by Active Schools could not be sustained without the invaluable assistance of volunteers. The level of time or involvement you can offer is completely up to you, every little bit helps!

There are lots of training opportunities for volunteers through the Central Active Schools Training Calendar.  The training opportunities range from basic level workshops through to UK Coaching Certificates run by National Governing Bodies, so there is something for everyone regardless of your experience or qualifications.

So if you have any spare time on your hands and would like to play a part in providing opportunities for children to be physically active, whether it be assisting with an existing activity or starting up a club yourself, please get in touch with me!
