Sports Development Strategy
The Aberdeenshire Sports Development Strategy has 6 stated aims:
- To promote participation via Sport for All and to overcome barriers to sports equality where they exist
- To provide and facilitate access to quality sports and recreation facilities and sports programmes from grass roots level to elite performer
- To work in partnership with all agencies to provide a comprehensive range of sports and health related opportunities, to maximise resources and eliminate duplication of effort
- To supply and promote a range of relevant support services to clubs, groups and individual, including coach education
- To raise awareness of the positive benefits of sport, support services and facilities
- To achieve targets set against agreed objectives, monitor and evaluate outcomes and plan for continuous improvement
Aberdeenshire Council was the first Sports Development Team in the U.K. to achieve the QUEST Highly Commended Quality Award for Sports Development in August 2000. In 2004 it was awarded the 3rd highest score in Britain. In the Autumn of 2006 it will be assessed again and hopes to show a further improvement.
Strategy for Sport and Physical Activity in Aberdeenshire
2002 - 2005 Strategy is being reviewed - would you like to comment? Contact us on the numbers below.
The strategy sets out what we are aiming to achieve and it provides the framework for action over the next three years. The delivery of the strategy for developing sport through programmes and adequate facilities is a challenge for both the Council's officers and Aberdeenshire Sports Council as our partner.
Both organisations are committed to making the strategy work. Our overall aim is to see an increase in participation of 25% over the next three years in sport and active lifestyles.
The objectives in the sports strategy are challenging but with joint commitment it is hoped that all the actions identified can be implemented over the next three years and substantial progress made to meeting our aims and objectives. The national strategy's emphasis on having more people, more active more often is the goal for Aberdeenshire Council and its partners.
