Our Work

What we do and how we do it:

  • Key links with schools, day centres and other agencies to deliver a coordinated approach to disability sport across Aberdeenshire
  • Work with Scottish Disability Sport to provide UK Disability Inclusion Training in Aberdeenshire to ensure people with disabilities are included in sport and physical activity opportunites e.g. Physical Education within School
  • Run an annual calendar of events and competitive opportunities
  • Link with Grampian Special Olympics to help provide pathways and opportunities for athletes with learning disabilities
  • Establish appropriate Education provision for all athletes idenfied within regional structures
  • Establish seamless pathways for sporting talent to progress from regional to national structures and international representation
  • Needs of coaches, leaders, teachers, volunteers and officials are supported and addressed through a comprehensive programme of Education and Training
  • Implementation and management of sports specific programmes for athletics, swimming and additional commonwealth and paralympic sports
  • Raise awareness of sporting opportunities for people with disabilities
  • Recognise sporting achievement of coaches and athletes in disability sport
  • Run core multi sport and sports specific classes for people with disabilities who currently find it difficult to access mainstream sport and physical provision

Disability Sport Summer Programme 2011

The Disability Sport Summer Programme has previously been subsidised by Aberdeenshire Council in partnership with Aberdeenshire Disability Sport bu, due to reductions in funding, I regret to inform you that the programme will not be running this year.

Please find details below of Aberdeenshire Council's concession scheme which entitles people with disabilities 50% concession access to Aberdeenshire facilities if you are in receipt of one of the following Disability Allowances:

  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Severe Disability Allowance
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • Invalidity Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance

This concession also applies to the Active Aberdeenshire Membership Scheme, link below for more information on this scheme:

Disability Sport Programme January to June 2012

Aberdeenshire Disability Sport Programme January to June 2012 is now available. There is a wide variety of activities on offer from Football, Trampolining, Tennis, Boccia, Ten Pin Bowling and Judo. All sessions are delivered by qualified coaches. See programme below for activities, dates and venues which includes application form. Paralympic Sports Open Day 7th May 2011

Come along to our open day and try out some paralympic sports at Aberdeen Sports Village on Saturday 7th May from 10am-12noon. Cost is free and open for ages 8 years to adult. There will be sessions in athletics, table tennis and boccia. See attached flyer.

Disability Swimming Talent ID Day

Enjoy swimming, keen to develop your skills come and long to our Open Day and dive right in on Sunday 27th February 2011 10-12am to Cults Academy Swimming Pool. Free for 8 years to adult. See attached document below to register.

Disability Football

Sessions are delived by qualified coaches who will deliver a safe and fun programme adapting practices to suit individuals. Participation Centres are designed to give anyone with a disability the opportunity to play football. The Regional Squad provides the pathway to national and international player opportunities. Woodland Walks for all ...Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire Disability Sport in partnership with Forestry Commission Scotland can offer many walks with all ability trails providing stunning views. Walks include Bennachie Visitor Centre, Cambus O'May, Glen Tanar, Bellwood and Foggieton Wood. For further information contact www.forestry.gov.uk/scotland
