These standards for road construction consent and adoption guidelines are intended to assist private and public developers in obtaining the necessary authority, which is required before a new road is constructed, in developing the geometric design of road layouts and in deciding on construction details.

 

Standards for Roads Construction Consent and Adoption - Issue B

Part 1 Policies and Procedures

This part of the document is intended to assist private and public developers in obtaining the necessary authority, which is required before a new road is constructed and, subsequently, in having the new road adopted by the Local Roads Authority.

Part 2 Geometry and Layout

This part of the document is intended to assist developers in the geometric design of road layouts and associated facilities. The following sections describe first how the guidelines should be used to conceive a layout in terms of road hierarchy and then give some detailed design guidance for each type of road for associated facilities.

Part 3 Construction Details

This part of the document is intended to assist Developers decide on appropriate construction details for road layouts and associated facilities. The following sections describe how the guidelines should be used to deliver sustainable infrastructure that is appropriate for the intended use.

The specification for standards for road construction consent and adoption referred to in this guide shall be the 'Specification for Highway Works', published by The Stationery Office (formerly HMSO).

Issue A

The Specification referred to in this guide shall be the
'Specification for Highway Works', published by The Stationery Office (formerly HMSO) as Volume 1 of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works, as modified and extended by the following:

  • Appendix 0/1: Additional, Substitute and Cancelled Clauses, Tables and Figures
  • Appendix 0/2: Minor alterations to existing Clauses, Tables and Figures
  • The Numbered Appendices listed in Appendix 0/3l
  • Appendix 0/5: Special national alterations of the Local Roads Authority's Representative of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland

Please note as at 15 December 2008 this document has been amended. The amendments are to Appendix 14/4 Electrical Equipment and 14/5 Electrical Equipment for Traffic Signs.
