East of Scotland European Consortium (ESEC)

The East of Scotland European Consortium (ESEC) is a non-statutory committee representing the interests of fourteen Eastern Scotland local authorities at a European level. The member councils are:
- Aberdeen City
- Aberdeenshire
- Angus
- Clackmannanshire
- Dundee City
- East Lothian
- Edinburgh City
- Falkirk
- Fife
- Mid Lothian
- Moray
- Perth and Kinross
- Stirling
- West Lothian
ESEC aims to:
- Influence, where directly relevant, the development of emerging European policy and legislation as it affects Eastern Scotland;
- Maximise European Union financial assistance;
- Foster co-operation between local authorities in Eastern Scotland and to provide a framework for the promotion of appropriate geographic and sectoral groupings;
- Develop links with similar regional groupings within Scotland, the United Kingdom and other European member states and develop Eastern Scotland corporate representation on appropriate bodies.
ABERDEENSHIRE COUNCIL AND ESEC
Aberdeenshire Council is represented on the ESEC Policy Board by Cllr. Michael Sullivan. As well as the Policy Board, which takes decisions, Aberdeenshire Council is represented by officers at Officer Group meetings and also on ad hoc groups dealing with specific issues.
