Huntly Hairst
Festival of Food and Farming
Huntly Hairst, food festival, now in its third year, has ambitious plans to expand. Joanna Blytheman, food critic of the Sunday Herald, who attended last year's event, wrote of "the town's farmers' market, a persuasive showcase for the staggeringly high-quality produce this area has to offer".
This year the festival starts on Saturday September 5th with an expanded Farmers' Market which will include demonstrations of cooking with local produce, making bread, chocolates and pacora and wine tastings. There will also be the annual World's Greatest Stovies Competition and a food trail around the town.
On Sunday 6th September the focus moves to the town's mart, with demonstrations of sheep handling, a mock auction, sheep dog trials, spinning and weaving as well as a haggis relay race, pony rides, stalls, a scarecrow competition and fun for the family.
A number of events and competitions will run from September until November and will include a Halloween parade and will finish with a Continental Market on 7th November.
