Hairy Bikers at the Milton Restaurant, Aberdeenshire

Last night’s episode (29th September 2009) of the Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers and Si King was filmed at the Milton Restaurant, Aberdeenshire, competing against our Executive Chef David Littlewood. This was one of only 4 episodes filmed in Scotland, and the only one in the North East.

In the words of the Hairy Bikers, “ We {also} visited a top chef in every county and they generously shared their secrets and tips with us. Then we put our necks on the line and had a cook off with each of these chefs, both of us making dishes to showcase the local produce. These were presented to a panel of local foodies. They didn’t know who had cooked what and had to judge which plate best represented the county.”

David cooked a venison dish using local roe deer with potato dumplings, kale, parsnip puree and pearl barley sauce, competing against the Hairy Bikers’ dish of Aberdeen Angus beef olives with kidney gravy, skirlie and champit potatoes.

Local people made up a blind taste test panel, who decided by 6 votes to 3 that David’s dish was the best!

David is only 26 but is already a rising star in the food world. He has won a number of awards, such as Grampian Chef of the Year 2007, and was a finalist in the Scottish Chef of the Year competition in 2009. He and his team turn out stunning dishes, some of which are a fresh look at Scottish classics, and the food looks as good as it tastes. David loves to cook with local produce, from the wild garlic on our doorstep to meat from local rare breed farmers.
