Royal Highland Show

Royal Highland Show 2009Food and drink produce from Aberdeen City and Shire was the star attraction at the recent Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh, held between 25th June and 28th June.

The event, which attracted 176,000 people over the four days and showed its largest ever display of livestock, was hailed an outstanding success by its management team.

This focus of this year’s event was the Aberdeen City and Shire region, with the food hall displaying products from a range of food and drink companies from the region.

Numerous other companies from the region were also in attendance, from those selling arts and crafts right through to those selling antiques. All businesses from the area were easily identifiable by their Aberdeen City and Shire regional branding.

Products from the region on sale at the show included those from:

Berry Scrumptious, Brewdog, Chocolat Passions, Deans of Huntly Ltd, Duncan’s of Deeside, Glen Garioch Distillery, Grampian Oat Products, Isabella’s Preserves, MacIntosh of Glendaveny, Mackie’s of Scotland, Oatmeal of Alford, Sangs (Bnaff) Ltd, Scotch Premier Meat and The Store Company.

For the first time this year, two fish companies from the region were also encouraged to attend the event. International Fish Canners from Fraserburgh and Downie’s from Whitehills attended and their Cullen Skink samples were enjoyed by visitors.

Royal Highland Show 2009On the second day of the event the food hall, and in particular the Aberdeen City and Shire stand, was visited by the Queen, Princess Anne and Scotland’s First Minister.

Speaking after the event James Knowles, Head of Economic Development said: “We were delighted with the representation from Aberdeenshire at the show. It is very much a ‘see it, taste it, buy it’ event and companies from the area were extremely busy with reinforcements being called for and additional products being raced to the event in Edinburgh.

“David Reid, President of the Highland Society, paid considerable credit to Aberdeenshire for supporting the event and hoped the coverage from the media will benefit businesses.”
