Pedestrians
When Aberdeenshire’s Targets are brokendown for Pedestrians (see Chart 6), we have surpassed Target 3 (Slight), we have almost met Target 2 (Children) and we have met Target1 (KSI).
Focussing road safety activity on a combination of Education and Engineering, especially our efforts in traffic calming, 20 mph limits, lowerspeed limits at schools, village gateways and improving pedestrian crossing facilities including the re-introduction of zebra crossings, is contributing to this success.
We will therefore continue to introduce traffic calming and 20 mph limits in our residential areas and improve pedestrian crossing facilities where appropriate. Within the life of this Plan, we will complete the programme of having a 20 mph limit outside every school in Aberdeenshire by April 2007.
In addition to these engineering and education measures, we will continue to support Road Safety Scotland with the Children’s Traffic Club in Scotland and the in-school road safety education provided by Grampian Police.
