Additional Refuse Bins and Bags

All households in Aberdeenshire have one 240 Litre wheeled refuse bin collected every fortnight. For those who have no room to store a wheeled bin, there is an alternative kerbside refuse bag collection service. Households that recycle and compost fully usually find this is sufficient. However, larger families and those with a medical need, or similar circumstance, may request an extra bin or bags from the Council by calling Wasteline on 0845 600 3 900.

• Extra bins or bags will only be issued following assessment by an Area Waste Officer
• They will be subject to periodic review (at least once a year)
• Only the bins or bags provided by the Council may be used
• Additional capacity may be removed if the householder is found not to be recycling or if their circumstances change

When assessing the need for extra capacity, the Area Waste Officer will be considering factors such as:

• The number of people in a household (generally, six or more)
• If a member of the household has a medical condition that produces excessive quantities of waste
• The household has two or more children in nappies

Our officers will work with householders to help them reduce waste and will arrange for extra recycling and refuse containers as appropriate. The householder will need to demonstrate that they are recycling as much as possible, which may be by keeping a waste diary and, if necessary, allowing an audit of the contents of their bin. All information provided will be confidential.

Assisted Collections

Householders who find it difficult to put their wheeled bins and / or recycling boxes out for collection can request an assisted collection service. Assisted collections are authorised by Area Waste Officers, who will visit to assess the situation and the best location for containers to be situated.
