Reuse Schemes and Charities

Reuse schemes at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)

Aberdeenshire Council is working in partnership with charities, setting up reuse schemes at some of its HWRCs. A container is available in the Reuse Area in which the public can place unwanted items in good or easily repairable condition. Volunteers from the charities will then take the items away to be either sold in their shops to raise funds or used directly in their charitable activities.

These include:

National Reuse Hotline

The National Reuse Hotline aims to make it easier for people across many parts of Scotland to donate quality, unwanted goods (like furniture, working electrical items, and clothing) for re-use by others. Call 0800 0665 820 for further details.

Donate to charities

Of course, you may want to donate items directly to your local charity shop. There is a good directory on the Recycle for Scotland website to help you find the nearest dropping off point for your favourite charity.

Bookdonors

Bookdonors is a social enterprise trading in used books to help people, charities and our environment. Bookdonors collects tonnes of unwanted books from over 100 charities & not-for-profit groups and over 40 Library services. The books are sold through two websites, Amazon and Abebooks. .

Reuse projects

Environmental charity Aberdeen Forward runs a number of projects in the North East of Scotland.

Creative Waste Exchange is a reuse project that accepts a wide variety of unwanted materials from companies and businesses around the North East. These unwanted materials are sold as a good quality, low cost resource to community groups and individuals.
