Abandoned Vehicles

 

 

 

Abandoned Vehicles are not only a nuisance but also an eyesore.

The removal, storage and disposal of abandoned vehicles is undertaken in terms of the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978, Road Traffic Regulation Act 1986 and the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986, as amended.

Aberdeenshire Council deals with over 500 abandoned vehicles per year. As well as being an eyesore they can also become a target for vandals and become a danger to the public.

Please complete the online reporting form or contact the Wasteline to report abandoned vehicles.

You will be asked for details of:

• where the vehicle is,
• its colour,
• registration number,
• make,
• condition,
• how long it has been there,
• is it taxed and if so, the expiry date.

You may be asked to provide your name, address and phone number.

An officer will then visit the vehicle, make enquiries and liase with Grampian Police to determine whether the vehicle is abandoned. A vehicle with no tax disc is not necessarily abandoned. The Council has no power to remove untaxed vehicles that are not abandoned. Tax Disk Offences should be reported to the DVLA, Tel: 0800 0325 202 or Grampian Police Tel: 0845 600 5 700.

Abandoned vehicles will either be taken directly to a scrapyard or stored until enquiries are made to contact the owner. Costs incurred uplifting, storing and disposing of the vehicle will be recovered from the current owner.

From 2007 the manufacturers will be responsible for the disposal of vehicles under the End of Life Vehicle Directive.
