Recycling Centres and Points Survey Report

Recycling and Waste

As part of the national Waste Aware Scotland programme a Waste Aware Grampian campaign was run between January and December 2004 to encourage participation in the use of Recycling Centres and Points across Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

The Waste Aware Grampian Recycling Centres and Points campaign started in January 2004 and was a high level campaign which aimed to signpost the public to the Recycling Centres and Points across Grampian and actively engage the public in recycling behaviour and to begin to promote awareness of reduce and reuse.

This campaigning issue was identified as being common to all three Local Authorities and the infrastructure necessary to allow the public to engage in recycling via the Recycling Centres and Points was in place.

This campaign allowed a shared communication strategy across the three Local Authorities. This approach was both cost effective and ensured a high communication profile maximising the campaigning message across the Grampian area.

This report details the findings from the door step survey undertaken in September 2004 to 1206 households across the Grampian area. This survey was stratified by Local Authority area and housing type (477 Aberdeen City, 479 Aberdeenshire, 250 Moray).

This survey was undertaken to:

  • Appraise the effectiveness of the different campaigning methods employed to allow the development of a best practice campaigning model for Grampian
  • Appraise attitudes and behaviour of the public in Grampian towards the use of Recycling Centres and Points and to measure the success of achieving behavioural change by comparison to a previous survey
    conducted in 2002
